My name is Deborah Gellis and I am a psychiatric social worker, also called a Licenced Clinical Social Worker ( LCSW). I have a private practice and also work at a clinic. My husband, Barrie Gellis, is one of the original New York Boys who attended the Seth Classes in Elmira. Having him and his awareness of the Seth material has been a blessing and an invaluable help. I have been working as a therapist for more than ten years, incorporating the Seth material into my work.

I have discovered that Seth's concepts are amazingly beneficial and clearly help patients progress with an accelerated self-awareness while empowering them with the understanding that they create their own reality and can always change things for the better. A focus on beliefs helps to discover what is behind many of their symptoms. I do utilize Seth exercises from the books that target specific problems the patients may face. These include visualizations and self-hypnosis techniques to change beliefs. There is no one-size-fits-all--treatment. Each treatment is tailor made for each client's needs and beliefs. The use of meditation is encouraged for focus and self-healing.

I am eclectic in my approach, and incorporate aspects of many different theories and therapies that complement each other and enhance treatment. These include, when appropriate and helpful: Cognitive behavioral, insight oriented, motivational interviewing, and trauma therapies; ego psychology; some aspects of Freud; and so on. I am known for my success at my clinic (and have received several awards) with my work with survivors of family violence, incest, and child abuse--who struggle with post traumatic stress disorder--as well as drug/alcohol/food addictions. One reason for my success is that I believe success is always possible.

I see my patients as my equal, and although it may sound like a cliche, I love my patients. I believe I have natural healing abilities that go hand-in-hand with successfully employing all the tools and treatments at my disposal.
