Meet Laurel Davies-Butts
Editor's Note: Laurel Davies-Butts, Rob's second wife, lives in Sayre, Pennsylvania, where she and Rob spent many of their 23 years together after moving from Elmira, New York. She was instrumental in helping Rob prepare various books for publication over the years, as well as copying huge amounts of documents for the Yale archives and, in general, assisting with the Seth material. Recently we asked Laurel if she would consider writing whatever came to mind at the moment about Rob and her life with him. Gracious as always, Laurel's letter to all of us is included here. ***
Dear Lynda, Seth Network International, and Seth Readers,
It was so nice to have Lynda wonder if I would write a page for SNI this month - I am working on my writing often these days, so this will be a good exercise for me.
Thank you, Lynda, I am glad to see that SNI has returned after ten years - Welcome back! You have been missed greatly, and I know this from the many comments that my husband, Rob Butts, received in letters. SNI was very much missed after you stopped publishing and having conferences, and I know that you have many, many friends who will reaffirm what I am saying, that they are glad you are back.
My name is Laurel Davies-Butts, and I am very sorry to inform any readers who do not know that my husband, Rob, died in May of last year. I want to mention to the many Seth, Jane Roberts, and Rob Butts readers how much he valued all of you! He felt absolutely blessed by all of the Seth readership and letter writers! Rob loved all of you, in fact, and was often very inspired, and also saddened, by many of the things that readers wrote, as they mentioned both their triumphs and tragedies.
I am sorry to have to let people know of his death; that is, both of us were hoping he would have many more birthdays in physical life. He had a recurrence of a cancer that he developed about a year after Jane’s death in 1984 that had spread to his bones in 2008. He had gotten rid of the cancer for 21 years, it seemed. In fact, he never let me know he had it in the first place - I found out about it when his doctor discussed it with us shortly before his death! Rob told me in 1986 that an operation that he was to have was “nothing at all.” Rob was a wonderful person, as many readers of the Seth Material already know. He was an intelligent and intellectually accomplished, kind, open-minded, hardworking, gifted artist and researcher; and a wonderful, thoughtful, athletic man who went running on the mountain road we lived on most nights of the year after he quit working.
Rob loved people. The study of consciousness was one of his favorite parts of life. He worked very hard on both the material that Seth was teaching to the world for 45 years and on his hundreds of drawings and paintings as a skilled and talented graphic artist. He graduated with a graphic arts degree from Pratt Institute.
