Seth and God Redefined

Seth and God Redefined

God is more than the sum of all the probable systems of reality He has created, and yet He is within each one of these, without exception. He is therefore within each man and woman. He is also within each spider, shadow, and frog, and this is what man does not like to admit.
—Seth Speaks, Session 560

When my daughter was pre-teen, she was very fond of Judy Blume’s books. One, Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret, was a special favorite. Not of everyone, it turned out. Some felt the title showed a supreme lack of reverence and humility toward God, and tried, unsuccessfully, to have the book banned in her school. Maybe God told them personally She was ticked off at being so defiled by young Margaret, who didn’t have the courtesy to address Her with head bowed and lips quivering in supplication. Surely that’s what happened, for why else would they think God doesn’t rejoice in our feelings of comfortable familiarity? Why else would they insist on holding Her so high up on the Holy Pedestal that communication lines disintegrate over the vast psychological distance between us?

We do God and ourselves a tremendous disservice when we portray Him as separate from our world, out there somewhere looking down upon His fallen people, judging their actions, and punishing or praising them accordingly. By refusing to redefine this old-fashioned, outmoded concept of All That Is, we can’t possibly experience physical reality with the depth and scope that is our birthright. God is literally all that is; therefore, God creates and is within our system of reality, within us.

This is great news for us, because it’s where our creative abilities come from. We are sparks from the mind of God, imbued with the power to create, because as part of All That Is, we share its characteristics. One of our purposes while in physical reality is to become consciously aware of our power, so we can learn to use it wisely, efficiently and with joy.

We may seem to make errors, bring ill health, unhappiness and desolation upon ourselves, but by observing our creations we learn how to better use our abilities. We check on our inner progress and growth by seeing the physical materialization of our works. Whatever the manifestation looks like to our physical eye, even if it portrays tragedy or terror, it’s still a creative achievement worthy of the power it took to materialize it. Seth says it best in Seth Speaks, session 580:

“Illness and suffering are not thrust upon you by God, or by All That Is, or by an outside agency. They are a by-product of the learning process, created by you, in themselves quite neutral. On the other hand, your existence itself, the reality and nature of your planet, the whole existence in which you have these experiences, are also created by you, using the abilities of which I have spoken.

“Illness and suffering are the results of the misdirection of creative energy. They are a part of the creative force, however. They do not come from a different source than, say, health and vitality. Suffering is not good for the soul, unless it teaches you how to stop suffering. That is its purpose.”

Here, finally, was a concept that made sense. Our lives are the result of enormous creative energy at its most focused. We are the primary molder of the events we choose to participate in. We are responsible—not just theoretically, but practically—for our experiences, individually and as a race.

I now could look at the pain and tragedy surrounding our world and understand. But I also knew that where we see poverty, it can be changed to prosperity; where we see sickness, it can be changed to health; where we see war, it can be changed to peace—because what we create, we can uncreate. I could see structure and reason within our universe, and I felt liberated.

When we redefine God, we necessarily redefine ourselves. When God slips off our archaic hook, back into the sea of reality, the greatness of our own roles becomes apparent. Trumpets should sound, drums should roll, with these words: We are little gods, with the power of creation at our fingertips!

Our world turns upside down and inside out with the impact of this statement. All the old rules change. We move into a new way of viewing reality, with fresh understandings and marvelous tools to reshape and rebuild our lives. For civilization, a gift is offered, and, if accepted, a new dawn breaks.
